Throwback Thursdays – Kurtis Blow

This week for Throwback Thursdays, we bring you a video by Kurtis Blow “If I Ruled The World.” Kurtis Blow is one of hip hop’s pioneers.  He was the first artist to be signed to a major label in the 1980s, with the help of Russell Simmons and released the hit single, “The Breaks.”

Kurtis Blow is considered to be the best rapper of the day when he burst onto the scene in 1980. He found also found success with the singles “If I Ruled the World” and “Basketball” while also appearing in the groundbreaking rap movie Krush Groove with Run DMC and other influential ’80s rappers.
